SCQF Level 6 Regulated Qualification | Distance Learning | 240hrs

Gain the skills and recognised competence to confidently plan, deliver, assess and evaluate effective workplace training.

The OPITO Train The Trainer Vocational Qualification is designed for trainers, instructors and subject matter experts who want to develop and demonstrate their training competence to an industry-recognised standard.

Combining essential training knowledge with practical workplace evidence, the qualification takes you from understanding the training cycle and planning engaging sessions through to delivering training, assessing learners and demonstrating your competence in the workplace.

Ideal for: New and existing trainers, instructors and subject matter experts working within the energy sector and operational industries.

Standard course access allows system and tutor access for 12 months.

Units

Learners must successfully complete 2 mandatory units, with 24 credits:

  • OGOS-SQ10: Train the Trainer Initial
  • OGOS-SQ11: Train the Trainer Workplace Evidence

Unit 1 OGOS‑SQ10 — Train the Trainer Initial is assessed using the following methods:

  • Short‑answer
  • Alternative response (True/False)
  • Multiple choice

Unit 2 OGOS-SQ11 — Train the Trainer Workplace Evidence requires learners to produce a complete workplace evidence portfolio, including:

  • Train at least one learner.
  • Deliver a minimum of two training sessions, with at least one directly observed and an observation record completed and submitted.
  • Demonstrate at least one assessment method, one piece of learner evidence, and one recorded assessment decision.
  • Provide a complete evidence portfolio mapped to
    • Outcome 1 — LNA Evidence Pack
    • Outcome 2 — Planning and Design Pack
    • Outcome 3 — Facilitation and Assessment Pack
    • Outcome 4 — Professional Practice and QA Pack

Who should do this course?

This qualification is designed for individuals beginning their development as workplace trainers and for those who need a structured, competency‑based route into planning, developing, delivering and evaluating training in operational or industry‑based environments.

It is particularly suited to:

  • New or aspiring trainers who require a clear progression pathway from foundational knowledge to applied workplace competence
  • Technical or vocational specialists who are required to train others as part of their operational role
  • Individuals transitioning into learning and development roles, including those supporting apprenticeships, competence‑based programmes or organisational training delivery
  • Trainers responsible for developing materials, facilitating learning, assessing progress and contributing to organisational training quality

The qualification equips learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to deliver safe, inclusive, compliant, and effective training aligned with organisational, regulatory, and industry requirements.

Pre-requisites

There are no formal entry requirements to enrol on to this qualification. It is accessible to new or aspiring trainers who are beginning their development in learning and development or workplace training roles.

We recommend that candidates have basic workplace or industry experience and vocational or technical subject‑matter expertise relevant to the area in which they intend to deliver training.

To successfully complete the qualification, learners must also have:

  • Access to at least one real learner in an operational workplace, as required for the Workplace Evidence Unit (OGOS‑SQ11).
  • Opportunities to plan, deliver, assess, and evaluate training in a real or appropriately justified simulated environment.
  • Access to organisational documentation, such as procedures, risk assessments, training records, and relevant technologies.

Certificate

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a globally recognised OPITO qualification at SCQF Level 6.

The certificate does not expire.
